Rev Ian Folks is Vicar of St James, and also of Christ Church, Sandfields. He came to St James in July 2021.

Growing up in Cumbria and Hampshire, Ian came to Swansea as a student in 1993, fell in love with it and never left! He has lived in the Uplands area since. After a fifteen year career in the social care, disability and voluntary sectors, he studied for ordination at St Michael’s College, Cardiff and came to the Parish of Central Swansea as a curate in 2016. He became Vicar of St James in July 2021.

He is passionate about people deepening their lives of worship and service and developing work with children and families in the church. In January 2021 he founded Call to Mind, a Christian organisation which supports the spiritual lives of people experiencing mental health challenges. He is married to Vanessa and they have two children, Daisy and Amelie. He enjoys playing guitar which he occasionally inflicts on the congregation, and enjoys (or suffers) following Tottenham and the England cricket team.

Rev Sarah Harris is Curate in the Central Swansea Ministry Area. Originally from Cornwall, she has lived in Swansea since 1985, when she began training as a nurse.  She worked in the NHS until 2016, when she was appointed as Community Mental Health Chaplain in Llandaff Diocese. After three years in this role, she started training at St Padarn’s, Cardiff, prior to Ordination to the Diaconate in June 2021.

She is the daughter of a Methodist Lay Pastor and Local Preacher.

Sarah is passionate about connecting with people and communicating the Gospel in a relevant and accessible way.

Sarah is married to Jeremy, a cradle Anglican, who is well known in Swansea, through church, work, and Swansea City F.C. connections!  She has three adult offspring, Nia, Christian and Jackson.

She loves cooking for family and friends, and she has recently taken up dressmaking again after many years.

Other Clergy

As part of the Central Swansea Ministry Area, other local clergy will occasionally take services here. Rev John Walters and Rev John Anthony usually lead our Welsh service.
